Our story
Whisker & Ash started as one person's way back into witchcraft: a candle, a few herbs from the spice rack and more questions than answers. Curiosity turned slowly into a way of living that felt honest, a return to self, to community and to the ground under our feet, and eventually something worth building a life around.
Whisker & Ash exists to share that path. We're a step or two ahead on the same road, close enough to remember exactly what it felt like to have no idea where to start, and what we wish someone had told us then.
We'd rather learn alongside you than sell you a shelf of things. Find what resonates, leave the rest, and shape a practice that is yours.
How we guide you
Everything in The Almanac, on our product pages and in our workshops is written to the same handful of principles. Better to say them out loud than have you guess:
You're allowed to do this your way. There's no governing body and no correct tradition. We'll show you what we've tried and what the folklore says. What you do with it is yours.
Use what you have. Most of witchcraft is kitchen herbs, a candle and attention. If a post can be done with what's already in your cupboard, we'll say so.
Mundane before magical. A spell is a way of getting clear about what you want and committing to it. It works alongside real-world effort, so every ritual we write ends with the practical step that goes with it.
We're honest about history. When a "traditional" practice is from the 1950s, or the 1970s, or last year on TikTok, we'll tell you. It stays just as valid. You're simply choosing it with your eyes open.
We name where things come from. Some practices belong to living, closed traditions. Money bowls and road openers are hoodoo; white sage is a Native American sacred plant, which is why we've chosen to leave it off the shelf. We'll say so, and point you to that tradition's own practitioners if you want to go deeper.
Pets come first. Many common herbs and most essential oils can be unsafe around cats and dogs. We flag the risks we know of on our product pages and in our posts. We're not vets, so please check with yours, and keep herbs, oils and anything burning out of reach of your animals.
We live in the Southern Hemisphere. Our sabbats, seasons and moon times are written for here, with spring in September and the longest night in June.
Still early
Whisker & Ash is early in its own journey too. As we learn more, meet more practitioners and explore more of what this practice can hold, expect the range and the writing to keep growing alongside it.
Thank you for being here from the start.
